I think all artists experience this sometimes, when your material doesn't seem to want to cooperate with your will, and sometimes the better path is to listen to it. I listened to this piece of antique wrought iron, it decided very abruptly, that it didn't want to be an axe the other day.

Then the solution sort of materialized in my mind, the iron's rejection of weapon-ness or violence also could have happened at any time, so it's better that it happened now rather than later, so I would continue on it's form and allow it to be something new.

The axe has warped and exploded in its impact against a stronger will, the will of iron alone. As steel shapes the world, the will of the material is far deeper than just the objects we create from it.
